Operations Central – The Blog

I started writing my original WordPress blog in March 2009.

Throughout my life I’ve found writing very cathartic but what started out as cheap form of psychotherapy soon metamorphosed into life form of its own which eventually reached the classical music No 5 slot on the Wikio ranking just over a year after penning my very first article.

Just like me, the blog is always in a state of evolution so you might like to consider subscribing to the updates, either by RSS feed or by email subscription. The link buttons are located in the side bar on the right.

June 2010 heralded the publication of this portfolio site and it seemed to make sense to migrate all the original posts to what I jokingly call MDH HQ!

For the entire month of August I added the generous contributions of guest post writers into the mix in order to give me and the rest of the world a brief respite from sound of my own voice.

I also needed to take a step back and seriously consider the future direction of this blog, my writing and ongoing Internet project plans in relation to the developments in my music career as a whole.

Setting off on a long journey with a road map and well researched itinerary is sound practice but don’t forget that along the way there will be occasions when you are confronted with a brand new motorway (freeway).

My the time I had emerged from my thinking cave I had come to the decision that this blog should go back to its personal roots.

As a result, insights which spring from what’s going on in my life and my music career will continue to live here.

Articles from the monthly archives which were of more general classical music interest I removed, returned to the subject matter afresh and rewrote from scratch. These new versions and additional material appear on my other site Zero 2 Maestro – a joint venture with Kinetiva launched on 11th April 2011 which focuses on unconventional success strategies for classical musicians.

Classical Music Connects Episode 19 – Collaborating Musician: UK Composer Jenni Pinnock

Every collaborating musician involved with the Classical Music Connects project I initially encountered in the social media and it’s no exaggeration to say that making contact with with this diverse talented bunch of musicians has completely changed my focus both professionally and personally over the last couple of years. Classical Music Connects Episode 18 – Recovery After a Sub-Par Performance

We started playing our instruments when we were young – some when mere toddlers. Amassing various accolades in our teens, the next stage was successfully navigating our way through conservatory training which is supposed to prepare us for a lifetime of joy performing in public. With an innate talent, positive strokes and education pedigree behind…

Classical Music Connects Episode 17 – Be Prepared: Performance Anxiety!

I’ve thought long and hard before writing this post but as Classical Music Connects is focused on collaboration, community and connection, I hope that by taking a risk and coming out in the open, I’ll help break what is perhaps one of the great taboos of classical music – something very rarely admitted in public…

Classical Music Connects Episode 16 – What Drives Musicians to Perform?

As I sit writing this two days before what will be the first time I’ve performed in public for some time, I find myself contemplating a question I’ve never yet been able to answer: what is it that motivates individuals to voluntarily put themselves in front of an audience? Given that most people try and…

Classical Music Connects Episode 15 – Procrastination: Get Over It!

My feet have hardly touched the ground this past fortnight: I’ve been out and about in my home Andalusian province of Málaga, chatting to as many people who would listen to me expound on Classical Music Connects. In retrospect – and here’s a confession – I should have done a lot more of this before…
